Role Summary

Responsible for receiving, testing, analyzing, recording, and reporting results of test performed. Doing so by leveraging their working knowledge of science, laboratory applications and diagnostic processes in meeting established performance expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Virus isolation from field samples submitted by veterinarians and diagnostic laboratories.
  • Virus testing for identity, purity, potency and propagation of production materials
  • Assist in research related to vaccine production and production component qualification.
  • Perform established laboratory protocols and assist in the development of new protocols
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines
  • Maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Record experimental data and assist in the interpretation of results
  • Keep detailed logs of all work-related activities.
  • Maintain equipment records
  • Use computers and computer-interfaced laboratory equipment.
  • Clean, maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
  • Prepare and maintain solutions used in laboratory activities.
  • Assist other research and diagnostic personnel in joint research projects.
  • Stay current on technical and scientific advances in the field


Competencies Required for the Role

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Decision Making Responsibilities: Must work primarily in a worker capacity within a team environment. Good organizational and writing skills, necessary to track and document work.
  • Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and correspond in the English language. Ability to write reports for internal distribution. Proficient in computer skills such as Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Physical Demands: Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Requires good hand/eye coordination to perform the various laboratory tasks.
  • Work EnvironmentBasic laboratory environment that requires the wearing of personal protective equipment and strong aseptic technique.

  • Bachelor’s degree of science in microbiology, virology or other life sciences

 

Desirable:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or higher in Life science with 2 or more years laboratory work experience.
  • Highly motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Contribute to intellectual component of assay optimization and/or newer technique development
  • Previous Diagnostic Laboratory experience
